The invention relates to a tool holder with a basic body having a tapered shank, a retaining bolt arranged so as to be displaceable in a sliding manner in the axial direction relative to the basic body in a bore of the same, and an electronically readable data carrier for storing characteristics of a tool clamped in the tool holder. According to the invention, the data carrier has a transmit-receive coil arranged in a pot core and a thick-film circuit connected to it and is inserted into a recess of the tool holder.
