The invention describes an air-filtering system having a very high separation efficiency which can be reinforced by the generation of electrical fields in a dielectric, folded filter medium and by the electrostatic charging of the aerosols to be filtered. In addition, a novel solution is offered, electrical neutralisation of the electrically charged articles in a clean space with the aid of ionic zones which flow through a folded filter element from the dirty air side to the clean air side, in which case additional ionisers on the clean air side in the clean space can become superfluous and can be dispensed with.
