A lens protection housing, for mounting externally on a motor vehicle, contains a camera lens 13 directed in the direction of motion of the vehicle through an opening 12 at the front of the housing. A film feed spool 15, on which a quantity of clear film mylar (RTM) or a functionally equivalent material is wound, is provided within the casing and the film is guided past the opening in the housing and onto a take-up spool 16 via guide rollers 17 so that the film acts to prevent contaminants reaching the camera lens 13. A motor is provided to drive a take-up spool to wind the film past the opening as the film becomes contaminated thus providing a clear view for the camera lens. A scraper 19 may be used to prevent contaminants entering the camera. <IMAGE>
