A device for vertically conveying a load (16), with a jib (7) that can swivel in a vertical plane and is provided with load suspension gear (15) at its free end (12), and with a counterweight boom (33) that can swivel in the vertical swivelling plane of the jib (7) and is provided with a counterweight (35) at its free end (34). The device has a mast (28) that can swivel in the vertical swivelling plane of the jib (7) and of the counterweight boom (33), whose free end (29) is connected to the free end (12) of the jib (7) on the one hand and to the free end (34) of the counterweight boom (33) on the other hand. In order to manage with small adjusting forces when adjusting the jib (7) and with a light counterweight (35), the bearing (32) of the counterweight boom (33) is at a distance (26, 31) from the bearing (8) of the jib (7), with a motion of the jib (7) about an angle (alpha1) being translated into a motion of the counterweight boom (33) about a larger angle (alpha2) (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
