A robot intended in particular for teaching and demonstration purposes has a housing accommodating a control board, an arm arranged so that it can rotate relative to the housing and consisting of a plurality of jointed parts, and a gripper head held by the arm so that it can rotate relative to the arm axis. The gripper head consists essentially of a U-profile, a rotatable threaded rod arranged inside and parallel to the U-profile and having a central worm-thread portion which is adjoined on either side by in each case one external-thread portion with the same but opposite pitch, of two fingers which are each provided with an internal thread and are guided inside the slot defined by the U-profile, one internal thread of one finger constantly meshing with one external-thread portion and the other internal thread of the other finger constantly meshing with the other external-thread portion, and of a worm wheel which meshes with the worm-thread portion and is seated on a worm-wheel shaft which is driven by a step motor fastened to the gripper head.
