The invention is concerned with an apparatus (8) for monitoring conveyor belt installations. The apparatus is guided, unmanned, on or adjacent to the conveyor belt supporting frame (1) of the belt installation (1) in such a manner that it can be moved over the length of the conveyor belt and has a camera system (26), which serves for inspection of the garland sets (5), of the belt supporting frame (1) and of the conveyor belt (7). Moreover, the apparatus (8) is equipped with heat sensors (24) and microphones (23) which, like the camera system (23), are connected to a control stand (30) or else to a memory, which is present in the apparatus (8), via lines (36) or by radio. Both the video signals, which transmit to a monitor (29) images of the garland sets (5), of the belt supporting construction (1) and of the conveyor belt (7) which appear in the field of view of the camera system (26), and the sensors (24) or microphones (23), which indicate inadmissible temperatures in the area of the garland sets (5) or noises occurring here, are permanently monitored in the control stand (30) or else the memories of the apparatus (8) are examined after the inspection run of the apparatus (8) is completed in order to determine damage to the conveyor belt installation (1). <IMAGE>
