The piano mechanism, which works according to the percussion tongue principle and with a lifting-member unit, has, held on a hammer nut (5), a hammer (2) and, fastened thereon, a counter-catcher (7) as well as a lifting member (13) with, rising up from this, a percussion tongue (20) fastened in an articulated manner. Also on the lifting member, a catcher (16) is held and a spring (22) pushing the percussion tongue into the engagement position with the hammer nut is arranged. To improve the repetition characteristics, a further spring arrangement (25, 26) is provided, which is supported on the counter-catcher and the percussion tongue. The spring arrangement is designed in such a manner that it is ineffective when the lifting member is lowered, and, when the lifting member is raised and the hammer is in the position in which it is released from the catcher, it transfers the hammer head 3 into an angled and restrike-readiness position a few to a maximum of 10 mm distant from its strike position and holds it there. <IMAGE>
