The power generator comprises a fixed frame with upper and lower rails, on which a car, connected to a counterweight, travels upwards and downwards. In downwards travel of the car an energy gain is produced because pressure forces are transmitted at 90 DEG to the upper rail guide and are thereby neutralised. These pressure forces are forces of an upwardly directed force-expending force element (for example buoyancy bodies in liquid vessels, spring arrangement), which is located on the car. The force element, together with a weight connected by way of a roller fixed to the car and secondarily also by way of a third fixed roller, forms a parallelogram of forces, the resultant force of which as rod transmits the upwardly acting pressure forces to the upper rail. The effect does not apply in upwards travel of the car. The connection of the rod to the upper rail is then cancelled by a reversing device. On the upwards travel of the car, only gravitational forces are present. At the top, before downwards travel, the connection of the rod to the rail is re-established by reversal and pressure transmitted to the upper rail is added to the gravitational force during downwards travel.
