When the movable switching contact (3) is in the position of rest in the installed state of the inertia switch, the fixed breaking contact (2) of the inertia switch surrounds the said switching contact in the upper region with essentially the same distance on all sides, the switching contact (3) being suspended in the breaking contact (2) in such a manner that it is electrically insulated from the latter and is acted upon by a holding force (F) on the side opposite the suspension. This holding force (F) can be applied by means of a spring (9) or a loading weight (13) and - just like the distance between the two interacting contacts (2, 3) - can also be adjustable, making it possible for different triggering conditions to be set. <IMAGE>
