PURPOSE:To standardizingly cope with a variety of character type supports by providing a code conversion mechanism and utilizing a shift JIS general-purpose KANJI (Chinese character) code. CONSTITUTION:A character type code expressed on an external medium is read from an input device 1, and the code conversion mechanism 3 replaces said code with the shift JIS general-purpose KANJI code being an internal expression. If the code is an n-byte character, the 1st byte of the shift JIS general-purpose KANJI code and its 2nd byte are allocated to first (n-1)-bytes and the final n-th byte, respectively. Text data implicitly expressed with the shift JIS general-purpose KANJI code in such a way is processed by a CPU 4 and stored in a file device 5. Conversely the code conversion mechanism 3 converts the character type expressed by the shift JIS general-purpose KANJI code into a character type code for internal expression, and processes the code so that it can be outputted and displayed on a CRT and a line printer. |
