PURPOSE:To always attain reading with high accuracy by providing a stopper blocking the retrogressing of a roller from a position with the coincidence between a focus of a lens and an original face in pressing a housing onto the original. CONSTITUTION:In reading a picture drawn on an original 3, the titled reader is place at first to a read start position on the original 3. In this state, a roller 7 and a read inlet surrounding wall 12 contact the original 3 but the arm 9 and the stopper 21 are parted by the tension of a spring 10. A read start switch (not shown) is pressed in the scanning and the housing l is pressed onto the original face manually. In depressing especially the roller 7 in this case, the pressing force by a hand overcomes the tension of the spring 10, the arm 9 is turned in a direction opposite to the pressing direction and touches the stopper 21 and the arm 9 is held at the position. In moving the housing 1 in this state, the original is read.
