PURPOSE:To get rid of hydrocarbon in exhaust gases, by tilting the main chamber side of an interconnecting hole connecting a main chamber and a swirl chamber to a direction toward a head cylinder, and also the swirl chamber side to a direction apart from the head cylinder. CONSTITUTION:A swirl chamber 5 is set up in a cylinder side. The main chamber side of an interconnecting hole 7 connecting this swirl chamber 5 to a main chamber 6, where a piston 4 slides, is tilted to a direction toward a head cylinder 1 and the swirl chamber side to a direction apart from the head cylinder 1, respectively. Fuel sprayed out of a fuel injection hole 8 is burned inside the swirl chamber 5. Combustion gas produced by this swirl chamber combustion is blown out upward toward a top face of the piston 4, and it is in no case turned round a piston side circumferential surface. Thus, such defects as an increase in hydrocarbon in exhaust gases, stick of a piston ring, and so on are all brought to nothing.
