PURPOSE:To produce a molten iron which is less contaminated by N at a good yield of raw material ore by putting the molten iron into a converter having bottom blowing tuyeres, and blowing powdery iron ore and pulverized coal with a converter exhaust gas as a carrier gas from a top blowing lance into the molten iron. CONSTITUTION:The molten iron 7 is put into the top blown converter 11 having the bottom blowing tuyeres 10. The powdery iron ore and pulverized coal from respective dispensers 18, 17 are blown together with gaseous oxygen into the converter from the top blowing lance 6 and N2 is blown therein from the bottom blowing tuyeres 10 to stir the molten iron 8. The CO-contg. exhaust gas of a low content of N2 emitted from the converter 11 or other metallurgical furnace is cooled by a cooler 14 and is pressurized as about 300 deg.C exhaust gas by a compressor. After the compressed gas is once stored in a pressure vessel 16, the gas is used as the carrier gas for the powder iron ore and pulverized coal which are blown together with the oxygen into the converter to reduce the iron ore. The molten iron is thus produced. Since the CO-contg. exhaust gas of a low content of N2 is used for the carrier gas for the iron ore and pulverized coal, the low N2-content molten iron is obtd. with the decreased heat energy supply.
