PURPOSE:To make it possible to separately measure org. carbon and inorg. carbon by once injecting a specimen, by a method wherein an acidic solution and an oxidizing catalyst are accepted in a specimen tube to gasify the inorg. carbon in the specimen before org. carbon is burnt. CONSTITUTION:A specimen tube 7 accepting an oxidizing catalyst particle 8 and an acidic reagent 9 is mounted to a combustion said gas blow pipe 4 by a plug body 10 to be inserted in a specimen tube receiving body 1 from an insert pipe 1a and the receiving body 1 is hermetically closed by a plug body 5 so that the specimen tube 1 is positioned above a heater 6. An aqueous specimen solution is injected in the specimen tube 7 by a specimen injector S through an injector receiver 1b and an injection port 7a and high purity combustion aid gas is made to flow through the specimen tube 7 to burn inorg. carbon in the specimen to generate carbon dioxide. Said carbon dioxide enters a cold trap 2 to remove moisture and the concn. thereof is measured by a carbon dioxide detector 3. A combustion aid gas blow pipe 4 is pushed down to move the specimen tube 7 downward and the test tube 7 is heated by the heater 6 to evaporate moisture. Org. carbon is converted to carbon dioxide by the action of catalyst particles and the concn. of said carbon dioxide is measured by the detector 3.
