A sample containing the ions and an eluent is passed through a first column containing an ion exchange resin in order to perform the chromatographic separation of these ions and the effluent from this first column is passed through a second column containing an ion exchange resin of a different kind from that of the resin contained in the first column in order to render the ions capable of being detected without destroying the separation obtained in the first column. This process is characterised in that, at the exit of the second column, the effluent which leaves while entraining each ion in the order determined by its nature is conducted to a cell for measuring pH, the change in the pH is recorded as a function of time and the concentration is calculated by integrating the pH variation curve.
