PURPOSE:To carry out accurate numerically controlled grinding at all times by multiplying the shift in the reference position of a grinding wheel accompanying the decrease of said grinding wheel and a dresser due to dressing, by the rate of the decrease of said dresser or said grinding wheel to the cutting quantity of said grinding wheel at the time of dressing, and correcting said shift in the reference position. CONSTITUTION:The grinding reference position YA of a grinding wheel 1 and a dresser 4 before dressing is shifted to a grinding reference position YB after dressing due to the decrease of the grinding wheel and dresser into 1b, 4b respectively caused by the dressing. When the cutting correction factor of the dresser or the grinding wheel with respect to the cutting quantity DELTA of the dresser or the grinding wheel is defined as alpha, the YB becomes, YB=YA-(1-alpha)DELTA. When only the grinding wheel 1 decreased, alpha=1, when only the dresser 4 decreased, alpha=0, and when both decreased, 0<alpha<1. Accordingly, the grinding reference position YB after dressing can be represented by, YB=YA-(1-alpha)DELTA, 0<=alpha<=1, enabling accurate numerically controlled grinding.
