PURPOSE:To improve the braiding performance, shaft seal performance, and safety by allowing the mixture consisting of hydrocarbon group polymer, siloxane group polymer, mineral oil, and minute graphite powder to exist in distribution in the gap of the fibers of carbon fiber bundles of a braided packing and between the surface and the fiber bundles. CONSTITUTION:Carbon fibers are S-twisted in 100T/m, and a 2-ply yarn is obtained by Z-twisting two pieces of S-twisted bodies in 100T/m. Said yarn is impregnated by 25-35% with the mixed impregnant consisting of graphite, hydrocarbon group compounds, siloxane group polymer having at least a viscos ity of 100,000 c.p., mineral oil, and solvent. Then, a braided article 1 is constitut ed by interlocking-braiding each yarn in 32 points with a gear ratio of upper 34 and lower 48, weight of 500g, and a die of 9.5 square by an ordinary knitting braiding machine. Said braided article 1 is impregnated by 20-30% with the impregnant consisting of four parts graphite, two parts hydrocarbon group polymer, siloxane group polymer, five parts mineral oil, and solvent. The, roller process is applied, and then the braided packing having a density of 1.0g/cm<2> and a dimension of 9.5mm can be obtained.
