PURPOSE:To facilitate reglation of balance and accurate correction of a shape and a size, by a method wherein, through the use of a seal ring made of a shape memory alloy as a seal ring between the stages of a multistage fluid mechanism, the ring is attachable after assembly of a rotor and an impeller, etc. CONSTITUTION:After the outer size, the inner size, and the width of a seal ring 1 made of a shape memory alloy having a notch 1a formed in one spot shown by (a) are finished to the respective given values, heat treatment is applied so that the shape is stored. Thereafter, the seal ring 1 is changed into a shape, shown by (c), by widening the notche 1a, and is placed, as shown by (d), in a groove part, formed in a sleeve 4 between the stages of a rotary body 5 the balance of which is regulated. When, with this state, temperature is increased to a given value through heating by mans of a drier, the seal ring 1 is restored to a memory shape (b), and is mounted, as shown by (e), in a place in the groove part. Since, as noted above, the seal ring 1 can be mounted after setting of a rotor and the like, regulation of the balance of a rotary part and correction of a shape and a size can be accurately and easily effected.
