PURPOSE:To enable photographing of a better and even image of an end face, by photographing an image of the end face when a columnar body being transferred intermittently comes to standstill to eliminate a plurality of control mechanisms or the like. CONSTITUTION:When a left end of a transfer rod 3 sticks outside fixed rods 2 and 2, a pellet P is placed in the groove 3a of the part sticking. As a drive gear 12 and a gear 11 are turned, the transfer rod 3 moves to the right being lifted upward with crank shafts 9 and 14 and then, further moves to the right being lowered to perform a feeding operation for transferring the pellets P to grooves 2a... ahead one at a time. Subsequently, the transfer rod 3 performs a return action to the left being further lowered. With this series of actions, the transfer rod 3 makes a rotating circular motion while the pellet P being transferred is put to standstill with both ends thereof supported in the grooves 2a and 2a of the fixed rods 2 during the return action of the transfer rod 3.
