PURPOSE:To improve accuracy, by mounting a pair of synchronous gears and a synchronous gear respectively to a tool spindle and a work spindle and shifting a phase of the paired gears with tooth thickness agreeing with the final finish tooth, when the paired synchronous gears and the synchronous gear are meshed, so that unevenness of rotation is eliminated when these gears reach the predetermined center distance. CONSTITUTION:A work gear 9 to be finished is mounted to a work spindle 14, while a tool spindle 13 mounts a tool 8 and a pair of synchronous gears 10a, 10b of the same shape, having an intermeshing pitch circle in proportion to a number of teeth of the work gear 9, shifting the phase, and tooth thickness T is adjusted. Next, the tool spindle 13 is started, and a bed, being gradually moved toward the tool spindle 13, performs machining by placing the tool spindle 13 to approach the work spindle 14 in their axial center distance. And when the gears 10a, 10b and 10 are placed in the predetermined center distance from each other, the synchronous action is performed removing unevenness of rotation due to grinding resistance of the work by the tool and a change of meshing, and a gear of small error of tooth profile can be machined. While the gear, in which a machining load less changes by both-tooth surface contact, can be better machined less bearing also the machining load.
