PURPOSE:To enable highly accurate measurement conforming to an actual state, by making it possible to arbitrarily set shape coefficient for calculating a specific surface area diameter from a specific surface area or automatically setting the same by an image analyzer. CONSTITUTION:The shape coefficient corresponding to the shape of a powder particle to be measured is determined by a shape coefficient setting device 15 and inputted to an operator 7 manually or automatically. A powder specimen W is allowed to fill the gap between file plates 3, 3 in a specimen cell 1 by a filling device 2 and air is passed through the specimen W by a cylinder 10. Whereupon, a thickness measuring device 4 inputs the thickness of the specimen layer to an operator 7 through a f(L) operator 5 and a flowmeter 12 inputs the flow rate of air to the operator 7. The operator 7 calculates specimen powder density and a specific surface area SW from both inputs and sets Ds=Ks/rhop.Sw to calculate a specific surface area diameter Ds. Therefore, highly accurate measurement corresponding to a particle shape can be performed.
