PURPOSE:To obtain a silane-compound modified polymer having a high affinity for a filler such as silica, excellent in tensile strength, abrasion resistance, etc., and suited for, e.g., a hose, by reacting a specified silane compound with the reactive terminal groups of a living polymer. CONSTITUTION:A living polymer is produced by polymerizing a monomer (e.g., 1,3-butadiene or styrene) in an inert organic solvent such as hexane or benzene by using an organo-alkali metal catalyst (e.g., n-butyllithium). The obtained living polymer is reacted with a silane compound of the formula (wherein X is chlorine, bromine or iodine, R is a 1-20 C hydrocarbon and n is 0-2) in an amount to provide 0.4-0.6 molecule per reactive terminal of the living polymer to obtain the purpose silane compound-modified polymer. Examples of the silane compounds of the formula include diphenoxydichlorosilane and ditolyldichlorosilane.
