PURPOSE:To recognize that a call to an operator at an incoming call side is in process, by an outgoing call side, by deciding whether the outgoing call side is a data communication equipment, or a telephone set, and sending out a sound corresponding to a call tone from the incoming call side to the outgoing call side, for a time until an incoming call side subscriber responds, when the outgoing call side is the telephone set. CONSTITUTION:When an incoming call is generated from a telephone network through a telephone circuit 12, a personal computer communication control equipment l starts a timer. and receives the incoming call. Next, when a CST(channel status signal) is received, the timer is stopped, and a data transfer is performed according to a modem control procedure, then a non-communication state is generated. Also, when no CST signal is received, the incoming call side equipment recognizes that the outgoing call side equipment is not the personal computer communication control equipment if the CST is not received within a timer time, and a speaker is operated, and the operator is called. Next, when a handset 14 is raised at the incoming call side while the spurious signal of a sound in process of a call is sent to the outgoing call side by a sound generator 15, the sending of a spurious sound is stopped, and the call can be started. When the handset is on-hooked after completing the call between operators, the telephone network is cut off, then a state is moved to the non-communication state.
