PURPOSE:To obtain an electrophotographic sensitive body good in sensitivity, superior in dark decay characteristics, and good in acceptance potential by forming an undercoat layer composed essentially of a hydroxystyrene polymer or a copolymer of hydroxystyrene as a polymerization component. CONSTITUTION:The electrophotographic sensitive body formed by laminating the undercoat layer and the photosensitive layer on a conductive substrate contains in the undercoat layer as an essential component the hydroxystyrene polymer or a copolymer of hydroxystyrene as a polymerization component, that is, a resin using styrene monomers each having a hydroxy group as the polymerization units. The undercoat layer 2 is formed into a prescribed film thickness by dissolving the resin in a solvent and coating the conductive substrate. For example, the electrophotographic sensitive body is, preferably, composed of the conductive substrate 1, the undercoat layer 2, an electrostatic charge generating layer 3, and a charge transfer layer 4 in this upward order, and sometimes, it is composed of the conductive substrate 1, the undercoat layer 2, the charge transfer layer 3, and the charge generating layer 4 in this upward order.
