PURPOSE:To reduce the cost of heating for the purpose of a soln. heat treatment and to eliminate the need for correcting the shape after a heat treatment by grasping both ends of stainless steel products right after hot rolling with electrodes and subjecting the steel products to electrical heating then to quick cooling and the soln. heat treatment. CONSTITUTION:A long-sized material W consisting of the high-temp. austenitic stainless steel right after rolling is imposed on a conveyor 1 consisting of a main driving chain conveyor 11 and driven chain conveyor 12. Both ends of the material W are grasped by the electrodes 21 provided to heating means 2A, 2B on the outside of the chain conveyor 11 and is resistance-heated to about 1,100 deg.C by energizing the heating means. The steel material is then conveyed to a cooler and is quickly cooled, by which the stainless steel material is subjected to the soln. heat treatment. Since the steel products of the high temp. right after hot rolling are subjected to the soln. heat treatment, the smaller electric power for heating is required and the deformation such as twisting of the steel products arising from the shrinkage on cooling by the quick cooling is obviated. The need for correcting the shape after the heat treatment is thus eliminated.
