PURPOSE:To prevent the oxidation of preliminarily reduced ore and to reduce the cost of charging by maintaining the preliminarily reduced ore at a prescribed temp. by a cooler via a pressure equalizing and evacuating chamber, then housing the ore once in a storage tank and charging the ore into a melt reduction furnace via the other pressure equalizing and evacuating chamber at need. CONSTITUTION:Iron ore is preliminarily reduced in a preliminary reduction furnace 1 and the preliminarily reduced ore obtd. in such a manner is dropped through a sealing valve 8 into the pressure equalizing and evacuating chamber 2 in which the same pressure as the pressure in the preliminary reduction furnace 1 is maintained by an inert gas such as N2 to prevent the oxidation thereof. The above-mentioned ore is then dropped through sealing valves 10, 11, then through a cooler 3 and a hopper 4 into the storage tank 5 in which the same pressure as the pressure in the chamber 2 is maintained. The ore is housed at the prescribed and temporarily stored therein. The preliminarily reduced ore in the storage tank 5 is thereafter moved through a sealing valve 12 into the pressure equalizing and evacuating chamber 6 in which the same pressure as the pressure in the melt reduction furnace 7 is maintained by the inert gas such as N2. The ore is then dropped and charged into the melt reduction furnace 7 via a sealing valve 14 while the explosion of the melt reduction furnace gas contg. H2 and C is prevented.
