PURPOSE:To improve the recovering efficiency and dehydration operation perfor mance in continuous production of water atomized metallic powder by granulat ing the flow of molten metal by a jet, cooling and solidifying the granular particle material, subjecting the resultant metallic powder to pressure filtration and continuously dehydrating the metallic powder, then drying the powder. CONSTITUTION:Atomizing water 6 is injected from a nozzle 5 to the molten metal flow 3 which flows down to an atomizing device 4 via a tundish 2 from a ladle 1 and the resultant granular particle material 7a is cooled and solidified by cooling water in an atomizing pit 8, by which the metallic powder 7b is formed. The above-mentioned metallic powder 7b is transferred through a collecting pit 26 by a recovering pump 27a and a transfer pump 27b to a pressure filter type dehydrating machine 4, by which the metallic powder is continuously dehydrated. Filtrate 14f contg. about 5-30mg/l metallic powder obtd. in said machine is reused after cooling with a cooler 16. On the other hand, metallic powder cake 15 contg. about 6-7% moisture is fed into a steam dryer 24 via a belt conveyor 19, a hopper 20, a table feeder 22, and a belt conveyor 23, etc. and is dried, by which the water atomized metallic powder is obtd.
