METHOD FOR OPERATING CARBONACEOUS MATERIAL-PACKED BED TYPE SMELTING AND REDUCING FURNACE

PURPOSE:To reduce the blast amt. and the consumption of enriched oxygen and a reducing agent by blowing in high-temp. air from plural tuyeres at the lower part of a shaft furnace packed with a carbonaceous solid reducing agent, and regulating the blast amt. and oxygen concn. at each tuyere. CONSTITUTION:Plural tuyeres 4 and 5 are provided at the lower part of a smelting and reducing furnace 1 wherein a bed packed with only a carbonaceous solid reducing agent is formed. Particulate ore contg. a metallic oxide is blown in along with high-temp. air from the upper tuyere 4, smelted, and dripped at the packed bed. The dripped material is reduced at a reducing bed formed by blowing in high-temp. air from the lower tuyere 5 to obtain molten metal. The amt. of high-temp. air to the upper and lower tuyeres 4 and 5 and the oxygen concn. are regulated separately at the upper and lower tuyeres in accordance with the melting and reducing characteristic of the metallic oxide and the output of the molten metal by the distributor 3 of a blowing device 2 and an oxygen feeder 13 in the smelting and reducing shaft furnace 1 of such a structure.
