PURPOSE:To obtain a carrier for an exhaust gas catalyst capable of withstanding under severe environment by a method requiring no additional soldering work, by integrating a honeycomb carrier matrix with a cartridge comprising an outer cylinder by diffusion treatment and subsequently oxidizing the integrated one to convert the same to alumina. CONSTITUTION:Al-foils 2 are laminated to the upper and lower surfaces of a honeycomb substrate 1 through a reducing agent 3, and the flat plate and the corrugated board both of which are made of this laminated material are formed into a roll shape or molded in a laminated state to be set to an outer cylinder and, thereafter, the whole is subjected to diffusion treatment at 300-650 deg.C under vacuum or a reductive atmosphere to be integrated. Subsequently, in order to obtain a catalyst carrier covered with Al2O3 being a high m.p. substance excellent in oxidation resistance, the integrated one is subjected to oxidation treatment at 800-1,000 deg.C in the atmosphere to be converted to alumina. By this method, all of the contact points of the flat plate and the corrugated board each being the honeycomb substrate can be perfectly bonded. |
