NEW MATERIAL:A benzofuranyloxyphenylurea derivative expressed by formula I (X is halogen or CF3; n is 0, 1 or 2; Y is H, halogen or CF3; R1 is lower alkyl; R2 is lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, lower alkynyl or lower alkoxy). EXAMPLE:1-[4-(2, 3-Dihydro-2, 2-dimethyl-5-benzofuranyloxy)phenyl]3-methoxy-3- methylurea. USE:A herbicide having high degree of safety while holding a very wide weeding spectrum. PREPARATION:(i) A compound expressed by formula II is reacted with a compound expressed by formula IV (Z is halogen) in the presence of a base at 0-150 deg.C or (ii) a compound expressed by formula III is reacted with a compound expressed by formula V at -50-+100 deg.C to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I.
