PURPOSE:To form a high quality alumina membrane, by a simple method wherein a spray solution of specific alkoxyaluminum beta-keto ester in an org. solvent is sprayed to a base material held to a specific temp. range. CONSTITUTION:A spray solution is prepared by dissolving alkoxyaluminum beta-keto ester represented by general formula (wherein x is 1<=x<=2, R is C2H5, C3H7 or C4H9 and R' and R'' are CH3, C2H5, C3H7, C4H9, C6H5 or C8H17) in an org. solvent such as benzene. This spray solution is sprayed to a plate-shaped base material such as glass or ceramics preheated to 400-700 deg.C to advance the formation of a membrane by thermal decomposition to form a uniform transparent alumina membrane having good adhesiveness.
