PURPOSE:To make the capacity of a memory small by a system wherein a part to be screened with a specified color in the background of a character is held between a background specification code and a background cancellation code. CONSTITUTION:CPU 1 prepares a document and outputs the same, while a memory 2 stores a program of a control process to be executed by CPU 1 and composes a work area. Document informations prepared by an operator are converted into character code string and stored in a data file unit 3. In document information TD, character code strings CC1, CC2 and CC3 in a part A1 held between a color specification code SC and a color cancellation code RC are recorded and outputted as characters of a color specified by the color specification code SC, and the character code CC2 in a part A2 held between a background specification code SB and a background cancellation code RB is screened with a color specified by the background specification code SB. In this way, a screening pattern can be printed in a color different from the one of a character by using a memory of small capacity.
