PURPOSE:To stably draw a casting billet from a nozzle at the constant speed by moving vertically a molten metal surface control rod having a heating device in the molten metal and controlling the molten metal surface level and the molten metal temp. CONSTITUTION:A carbon rod 11 in the molten metal surface control rod 1 is arranged as possible to heat by an electromagnetic induction, and the outer part thereof 1 is covered by a refractory 10 of Al2O3 quality. This control rod 1 is moved vertically by a hanging tool 9 in the molten metal 3 in a crucible 2. Now, when the molten metal surface level goes down, the control rod 1 is inserted deeply into the molten metal to raise the molten metal surface level, and when the molten metal surface level rises, the molten metal is drawn in accordance with its condition. Further, when the molten metal temp. drops, the control rod 1 is heated by supplying high frequency output to the induction heating coil 8, to keep the molten metal temp. constant. In this way, the casting billet 7 is stably drawn from a nozzle 4 at the constant speed.
