PURPOSE:To attain to reduce raw material cost and to shorten a working period, by applying paint, which is prepared by diluting the same paint as that used in the electrostatic painting of the next process with a specific solvent, to the cleaned surface of an article to be painted. CONSTITUTION:In a first process 1, the dust or contaminant adhered to the surface of an article to be painted being an electrically poor conductor is removed. Next, in a second process 2, paint which is prepared by appropriately diluting the same paint as that used in the electrostatic painting of a third process 3, for example, with an alcohol type solvent having a low resistance value is applied to the surface of the article to be painted. By employing this second process, the electrostatic painting of the third process 3 can be performed by a wet-on-wet system and a drying speed can be delayed and, further, the surface of the electrically poor conductive body is made conductive by the solvent having the low electric resistance value to make it possible to easily perform electrostatic painting. Electrostatic painting is performed immediately after the second process 2 and baking is performed in a fourth process 4 to obtain a painted article having good finish.
