PURPOSE:To improve reproduction output by laminating and forming high magnetic permeability layers consisting of 'Permalloy(R)' plating layers having 5-50mum layer thickness and vertically magnetized layers on an aluminum base. CONSTITUTION:This vertical magnetic recording medium is formed with the 'Permalloy(R)' plating layers 8 having 5-50mum layer thickness directly on the aluminum base 1; further the Co-Cr layers 4 having the axis of easy magnetization in the direction perpendicular to the film lane are laminated and formed by sputtering, etc., on the layers 8. Recording and reproducing of information to and from the vertical magnetic recording medium formed in such a manner are executed by a main magnetic pole excitation type single magnetic pole head constituted of, for example, a return pass ferrite 5 wound with a coil 6 and a main magnetic pole 7 fixed to the ferrite 5 in on the central axial lines of the return pass ferrite 5 and the winding of the coil 6. The reproduction output is thus improved. Recording density is made higher if the reproduction output is suppressed.
