PURPOSE:To economically obtain an O-acyl compound from an O-alkyl and/or O-aryl compound suppressing the precipitation of catalyst, by using a specific catalyst containing rhodium as a main catalyst in combination with a specific catalyst-stabilizing component. CONSTITUTION:An O-alkyl and/or O-aryl compound (e.g. methyl acetate) is carbonylated by reacting with carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst system composed of a rhodium catalyst, an iodine compound, an aluminum accelerator and a boron compound. The above process is carried out in the presence of one or more catalyst-stabilizing components selected from (i) lithium, sodium or their compound and (ii) a trivalent nitrogen compound or trivalent phosphorus compound in the above reaction system. The precipitation of catalyst component in a distillation separation process of the catalyst from the product can be remarkably suppressed and the objective O-acyl compound, e.g. acetic anhydride useful as a raw material for production of cellulose acetate can be economically produced by this process. |
