PURPOSE:To improve the controllability of an adaptive controller by storing the optimum control coefficient into a storage means for optimum control coefficient in response to the value of the effect signal and reading out this stored coefficient to execute it at the time of a control action. CONSTITUTION:An adaptive controller compares the feedback signal S1 of a controlled system 1 with the target value signal S2 via a substraction means 2 and adds this deviation signal S3 to a PID control means 3 to produce an operation signal S4 through a control operation. The signal S4 is added to the search signal S5 through an addition means 4. Thus an addition signal S6 is obtained and applied to the controlled system 1. While the characteristics of the controlled system is identified by an identifying means 6 and the optimum PID control coefficient is decided by an optimum PID value deciding means 7. Here an optimum PID value storage means 10 is provided to store the optimum PID control coefficient in response to the value of the effect signal that affects the characteristics of the controlled system 1. Then the stored control coefficient is read out in accordance with the value of the effect signal and set as the coefficient of the means 3.
