PURPOSE:To reduce the revolution speed shock by starting the idle-up according to the operation instruction of the load component such as a cooler and temporarily increasing the mixed gas quantity when the engine revolution speed becomes equal to a prescribed number of revolution. CONSTITUTION:In a computer 76 for controlling an engine, an idle-up means which receives the idle operation detection signal supplied from an idle switch 38 and a cooler operation instruction signal supplied from a cooler switch 50 and increases the aimed opening degree of an ISC (idle speed control) valve according to the operation state of the cooler is provided. When a prescribed time lapses after the turning-ON of the cooler switch 50, and the engine revolution speed reaches a set revolution speed, a mixed-gas adding means is operated by a mixed-gas addition starting means when idle up is started, and the ISC valve is controlled so as to temporarily exceed the aimed opening degree. Further when a prescribed time lapses after the operation of the adding means, a cooler relay 82 is excited to operate the cooler.
