PURPOSE:To prevent corrosion in a pump, by supplying dry gas into a casing after a pump stops for keeping the pressure in the apparatus in the casing to a value higher than the pressure determined by a water head measured based on an inlet. CONSTITUTION:Dry gas is supplied into a casing 10 through a water inlet 21 after a pump stops for forcing sea water staying in the casing out and replacing the interior of the casing with air. The pressure in the apparatus in the casing 10 is kept to a value higher than the pressure determined by a water head. Thus, corrosion in the casing can be prevented.
