PURPOSE:To reduce the fuel consumption by stopping fuel feed when the number of revolutions in idling is over a set number of revolutions or the car speed is over a prescribed value and by restarting fuel feed when the number of revolutions in idling is less than a set number of revolutions and the car speed is less than a prescribed value. CONSTITUTION:A computer for controlling the operation of an engine is equipped with an in-idling fuel feed quantity control means which receives the output of an idle switch 38 and controls an injector 6 and a stepping motor 18a in an idle control valve. Further a fuel cut means which stops fuel feed when it is judged that the engine revolution speed in idling detected by a revolution speed sensor 44 is over a set revolution speed or the car speed detected by a car speed sensor 60 is over a set car speed is provided. Further, a fuel feed restoration means which restarts fuel feed when it is judged that the engine revolution speed in idling is less than the set number of revolutions and the car speed is less than the prescribed car speed corresponding to the speed change stage is provided.
