PURPOSE:A phenolic resin molding material having improved moldability, capable of providing a molded article having improved water resistance, electrical insulating properties, mechanical strength, etc., obtained by blending a phenolic resin with acetylated woodmeal in a specific ratio. CONSTITUTION:(A) Novolak or resol phenolic resin is blended with (B) 2-150wt% woodmeal which is obtained by acetylating hydroxyl group in a wood component with acetic anhydrid, chromic acid anhydride, etc., in the presence or absence of a catalyst and pulverizing and has <= size passing through 42 meshes Tyler standard sieve preferably passing through 100-150 meshes to give the aimed molding material. In the case where the component A is the novolak phenolic resin, the blend is further mixed with 7-15wt% curing agent such as hexamethylenetetramine, etc., another filler and, if necessary, a plasticizer and/or a lubricant, colorant and reaction adjustor properly.
