PURPOSE:To reduce activation energy for chemical reaction involved in desulfurization and remarkably improve desulfurization efficiency and promotion ratio, by carrying out the desulfurization of sulfur in heavy oil in an electric field. CONSTITUTION:Hydrogen gas is blown into heavy oil to convert sulfur contained therein into hydrogen sulfide, which is desulfurized as iron sulfide by a desulfurization method for the heavy oil. In the process, the desulfurization is carried out in an electric field to reduce activation energy for chemical reaction involved in the desulfurization and remarkably improve the desulfurization efficiency and promotion ratio.
