PURPOSE:To effectively recover the heat energy of top gas in a vertical furnace by placing heat recovering pipes in a top gas exhaust path and circulating a solvent in the pipes to recover the sensible heat of the top gas. CONSTITUTION:Top gas in a vertical furnace for refining a ferroalloy reaches about 500 deg.C at the top of the furnace and is kept at about 300 deg.C even when the gas reaches a cyclone 4 through an uptake 1, a downcomer 2 and a dust catcher 3. The side walls of the uptake 1, the downcomer 2, the dust catcher 3 and the cyclone 4 are lined 5 and pipes 7 are embedded in the lining 5. A solvent such as water or gaseous flon is circulated in the pipes 7 to recover the sensible heat of the top gas.
