PURPOSE:To simplify the construction of the wall of a furnace and to improve the performance of the furnace by disposing anciliary appliances such as gas blow pipe, temp. measuring device and oxygen sensor to the tap holes of the furnace and controlling the furnace condition. CONSTITUTION:Plural tuyeres 11 are provided in the bottom of a metallurgical furnace such as blast furnace. The tap holes 12a, 12b are provided in the symmetrical positions in the lower part of the side wall 15 enclosing the furnace bottom. The blow pipe 16 of gas for bath stirring and powder supplying and the thermometer 17 are respectively disposed to the tap holes 12a, 12b. The oxygen sensor, Si sensor, etc., are disposed to the tap holes in addition to the above-mentioned appliances. A raw material charger, gas blower, etc., are controlled in accordance with the temp. of the molten metal measured by the thermometer 17 and the values detected by the respective sensors. The condition in the furnace is known with good accuracy and the function of the tap holes is improved by the above-mentioned constitution.
