A tool for cutting open spot-welded areas is described which has a holder, a cutter and a centring mandrel. The cutter is interchangeably accommodated in the front part of the holder and in such a way as to be fixed against rotation and displacement. A centring mandrel is in turn displaceably guided in the cutter in a sliding manner. By means of a compression spring accommodated in the interior of the holder, the centring mandrel is flexibly pressed against the workpiece to be worked. In the area remote from the cutting section, the cutter has an axial slot for accommodating a driving pin engaging in a well-fitting manner and a recess preferably offset from this in the peripheral direction. A locking grub screw can be screwed into the recess. This design of the tool results in advantages in manufacture and during exchange and with regard to the life of the cutter.
