Process for obtaining diethyl 9-ethyl-4,6-dioxo-10-propyl- 6,9-dihydro-4H-pyrano[3,2-g]quinoline-2,8-dicarboxylate comprises: a) treating a compound of formula (II) with diethyl oxalate in the presence of sodium ethoxide in order to obtain an intermediate compound; and b) treating the intermediate compound with hydrochloric acid in ethanol and at the reflux temperature of the solvent in order to obtain the ethyl 9-ethyl-4,6-dioxo-10-propyl-6,9- dihydro-4H-pyrano[3,2-g]quinoline-2,8-dicarboxylate of formula I. Used for its therapeutic properties.
