<p>PURPOSE:To set up a tilt angle of the liquid crystal molecule to a prescribed value, and to obtain stabilized uniform orientation of the titled device by forming the orientation layer for the liquid crystal molecule with a prescribed surface-reforming, thereby controlling a molecular form on the orientation surface to the prescribed form. CONSTITUTION:The surface-reforming is effected on the surface 2 composed of polyvinyl alcohol resin (PVA resin) with alkylaldehyde, thereby forming the molecular form projecting an alkyl chain of the alkylaldehyde. Thus, the liquid crystal molecule 3 is stabilized by entering the prescribed molecule in a gap of between the alkyl chains of the alkylaldehydes. The tilt angle theta of the liquid crystal molecule 3 depends on the conformation of the alkyl chains. The rubbing treatment is effected to arrange a direction of the liquid crystal molecule 3 on the surface of the substrate 1.</p> |
