The invention relates to a method and a unit for preheating a continuous stream of a solution which is subjected to evaporation in a thermal compression unit, the preheating being carried out with the aid of the heat arising from the evaporation with the hot condensate from the heat exchanger and/or the hot output solution from the evaporator. In order to preheat such a solution which is saturated or virtually saturated with an agent forming encrustation and at the same time to reduce the effort for cleaning heat exchanger surfaces, according to the invention it is proposed that the hot condensate and/or the hot output solution is subjected to partial vacuum evaporation and the resulting water vapour is condensed in a preheating condenser with the solution stream to be preheated.
