Air-cooling system in an underground mining operation, in particular in a roadway or at a longwall face, with inlet heat exchanger, inbye heat exchanger and closed water circulation between the two heat exchangers, with cooling-water pipeline and return-water pipeline and a pump for the water circulation. The cooling-water pipeline and the return-water pipeline can be extended by fitting pipe sections, following the advance of the working. A foreign-body separator is arranged in the return-water pipeline, specifically upstream of the pump when the pump is arranged in the return-water pipeline and upstream of the inlet heat exchanger when the pump is arranged in the cooling-water pipeline. The foreign-body separator is constructed as a swirl separator having a cylindrical housing casing with removable lid, an intermediate bottom, an overflow cylinder inserted into the intermediate bottom concentrically to the housing casing, a tangential return-water inlet, and a return-water outlet above the return-water inlet. The intermediate bottom is arranged between return-water inlet and return-water outlet, and the overflow cylinder is arranged in front of the return-water inlet. The overflow cylinder has a screen bottom in the area of its lower margin.
