An apparatus for releasing and locking the pivoting of the supporting frames 1 of supporting rollers 2 which support the upper band strand in band stores and under which a band-deflecting carriage at the same time travels. The supporting frames are pivoted by means of guide rollers about a vertical pivot axis out of the working position into the position of rest. These guide rollers are positively guided by cam guides arranged on the band-deflecting carriage. Pivotable together with the supporting frame 1 is a ratchet disc 7 which has ratchet recesses 7a, 7b which are assigned to the two positions of the supporting frame 1 and of the supporting roller 2 and which are arranged at an axial distance one above the other. A ratchet lever assigned to the ratchet disc 7 is designed as a double-armed lever 10; it carries a ratchet tooth 15a, 15b and a shift roller 14a, 14b on each of the two lever arms 10a, 10b. One shift roller 14a is located in front of and the shift roller 14b behind an axial plane of the pivot axis A-A of the ratchet lever 10, the said axial plane extending transversely relative to the direction of movement of the band-deflecting carriage. At the same time, that lever arm 10a or 10b of the ratchet lever 10 carrying the respective shift roller 14a or 14b located behind this axial plane, as seen in the direction of movement of the band-deflecting carriage, assumes the locking position. <IMAGE>
